A Little Family 1 (小さな家族 (1), Chīsana Kazoku (1)) is the 42nd chapter of the Parasyte manga series, written and illustrated by Hitoshi Iwaaki.
Overview[]
After escaping into the city, Shinichi is able to rest and contact his family. He tells his father to leave home and find somewhere safe to stay. Meanwhile, Kuramori's wife and daughter are killed by parasites. This causes Kuramori to become deeply depressed. He is then later seen waiting in an interrogation room.
Summary[]
The night before Shinichi was attacked, Kuramori's office was burned down by Kusano along with a female parasite, who is then sent alone to take care of Kuramori. At Kuramori's apartment, he finishes off his last cigarette and heads out to go shopping, and comes back 15 minutes later to find his wife and daughter now dead.
Back in the present, people are noticing Shinichi's injured appearance, and Migi suggests buying new clothes and food. When Shinichi asks with what money, Migi draws out a wad of bills he'd pickpocketed and hidden away inside himself, causing Shinichi to freak out about the morality of it. Migi simply brushes it aside as a matter of survival and tells him they can't impose different species ideals on each other.
After Shinichi buys a new outfit and a meal he hears a news report about the death of Kuramori's family and the destruction of his office. He realizes that his own father is likely in danger and goes to call home despite Migi's own misgivings, telling Kazuyuki that he'd witnessed a parasite and it had pursued him and likely got ahold of his address after he escaped. He warns his father to leave the house and tell their housekeeper to stay away as well. Kazuyuki, not quite believing him, demands to know where he is so he can pick him up and to tell him everything.
Unable to explain, Shinichi shakily tells him that he's been a good kid and plans to go to college because he knows his mother would have wanted that. He tries to make his sincerity clear despite his lack of information and begs his father to leave the house because the thing that killed his mother is coming. Kazuyuki finally relents, only asking if he's safe, which Shinichi says yes to, and gives him a contact number for an inn he frequents. He tells Shinichi to be careful and hangs up. Migi then tells Shinichi to find a place to sleep and more money, and Shinichi sadly muses on not being able to be a good kid.
Meanwhile, Kuramori waits alone with bloodshot eyes in an interview room.
