Hero (ヒーロー, Hīrō) is the 57th chapter in the Parasyte manga series, written and illustrated by Hitoshi Iwaaki.
Overview[]
Shinichi begins experiencing paranoia, as the thought of Gotou attacking him at anytime, gets to him. Shinichi meets up with Satomi at a park, where they later leave to her home, and have sex. With Shinichi's resolve to live stronger than ever, Migi informs him that Gotou is after them.
Summary[]
Shinichi begins to flee, and is stopped by Hirama asking if he knew something that could have turned the tide of battle. He frantically denies it, and a head falls down from the sky. It is revealed to be his own. His decapitated body approaches as Migi reaches out.
Shinichi awakens from the nightmare. Migi implies he had experienced it as well. The two of them discuss how Gotou is certain to come after him, and what they could possibly do. Shinichi refuses to allow others to come to harm trying to protect him, and smiles at the reminder of Migi's callous self-interest. He then internally makes his goodbyes to his father.
Outside, he realizes he forgot to go to school, and laughs. He is then startled by a small child touching him and leaps several feet into the air. Upon realizing that Migi is asleep and unable to warn him, he becomes paranoid and begins fleeing from nothing. He accidentally bumps into a group of young men who harass him and demand he kneel to apologize. One then puts his foot on Shinichi's head, and in panic Shinichi frantically beats them up.
Later, he meets Satomi, who teasingly calls him out for skipping. However, he simply accepts it and derides himself. She asks what's wrong with him. Shinichi hugs her instead of answering. In his terror, he accidentally squeezes her so hard she shoves him off, and he flees the scene, eventually ending up on a park bench.
He sits there until sundown when Migi awakens. They have a quick chat until Satomi appears again, telling him she guessed because they both like parks. Shinichi apologizes for earlier. Satomi then invites him to her home while her parents are away. They make love while Shinichi thinks about how much he doesn't want to die, and how he survives by destroying everything around himself.
Afterwards, Satomi praises him and says that after all they've been through, it would take something huge to break them. Shinichi tells her that he loves her.
The next day, Migi warns him of Gotou driving towards them. They steal a car and Migi drives them away. Shinichi wonders why Gotou didn't just run them down, and is reminded of what happened the last time he tried that. Shinichi then asks for Migi to take them far away from people.
On a winding mountain road, Migi peers at several bends and finally decides on one, stopping the car so Shinichi can prepare. He then sends the car off the short cliff as Shinichi jumps out, and it crashes directly into Gotou's.
