Morning (朝, Asa) is the 62nd chapter of the Parasyte manga series, written and illustrated by Hitoshi Iwaaki.
Overview[]
Using a rusty metal rod, Shinichi is able to injure Gotou, by aiming for the gap in his armor. Enraged, Gotou attacks Shinichi ferociously, leaving him no room to escape. As Gotou prepares his finishing blow, Shinichi who has accepted death, is saved by Migi. Due to his body becoming poisoned, Shinichi and Migi watch as Gotou's own body begins to rebel against him and explode. Though Shinichi initially wants to leave Gotou's fate up to luck, he decides he must kill him, and heads home.
Summary[]
While Gotou is still distracted, Shinichi pulls out the iron rod and slams it into Gotou's side, then kicks it deeply in. Gotou roars, enraged at being wounded by a human. Shinichi flees, while the police nearby call in backup.
Gotou approaches as the sun begins to rise, and cuts down that pins Shinichi's leg. He raises a bladed tentacle, only for it to stop moving. He then morphs his arm into another blade and slashes down on Shinichi.
Shinichi closes his eyes. However, the stub of his right arm raises, an eye and small nubs emerging from it which grab onto the blade as it connects. Migi then tears his way off Gotou's arm and body to return to Shinichi, and greets him. The other parasites in Gotou's body begin struggling as well, while Migi pushes the tree off Shinichi's leg.
Gotou threatens to kill them, but Migi states that he had cut up several internal organs that Gotou would have to heal first. As Gotou struggles to control his body, Migi tells Shinichi that he had jammed poison into their combined body, awakening them all. Gotou snarls with rage, but Migi also says that Gotou had five shares of the instinct to kill humans due to his make up, turning him into a killing machine. Migi then cuts off Gotou's head as he charges, and the monster explodes.
Shinichi and Migi depart, with Migi explaining that all of the parasites had been comfortably asleep under Gotou's control, including himself. Shinichi goes and retrieves the hatchet he had used earlier, and shows Migi the dumped trash. Although Shinichi is indignant that people have been dumping toxic material to leave lying around, Migi admits that this was the only reason they won and that even parasites can't compete with humans.
Migi then warns Shinichi that Gotou is attempting to recover. They watch as the small masses of cells crawl back towards his body, the poison having been expelled by the explosion. Shinichi declares that they have to kill him or else Gotou will kill more, but Migi hesitates, and decides that it would be akin to murder because they had once shared hosts. He leaves the decision to Shinichi, who feels some pity watching the remnants struggle and remembers Reiko Tamura's request to be nice to them.
Shinichi eventually decides that parasites are probably the answer to humans being destructive, as well as mercy being the final treasure of mankind, and walks away without killing Gotou.
As they walk, Migi asks if Shinichi thinks the Earth is beautiful. Migi derides the human viewpoint of "For the Earth" because it is unfeeling, and life started on it born out of the harshest climates. This gives Shinichi second thoughts, and he returns to Gotou's body. Crying, he finally destroys it.
At Mitsuyo's house, she sees that her hatchet was returned, and learns that the monster's body was found. Shinichi heads for home.
