In Cold Blood (冷血, Reiketsu) is the 19th episode of the Parasyte -the maxim- (寄生獣 セイの格率,, Kiseijū Sei no Kakuritsu), anime series.
Overview[]
Despite having no evidence against Shinichi the police are still certain that he is hiding something. Gotou and Hirokawa begin to suspect something, as more of their species are killed. The police along with the military, decide to attack and eliminate all parasites at City Hall.
Summary[]
Uragami shows completely different behavior to his usual self upon noticing something about Shinichi, and reminisces about his past. Before being taken in by the police, he murdered, raped and cannibalized other people. He suspects his behavioral similarities with Parasites (murdering and eating humans) are what allows him to identify them. One day he witnessed the aftermath of a Parasite feeding at a designated dining area, and was mistakenly apprehended by the police. In the present, Uragami tells the investigators that Shinichi is an ordinary human being.
Reiko Tamura's son is still undergoing testing to ensure he is human, after which he will be placed in the care of a foster family. The government is considering launching an initiative to eradicate Parasites. Hirama considers getting Uragami in involved as a means of identifying Parasites, but Yamagishi, the commander of ground forces, is opposed to the idea. Meanwhile, Gotou and Hirokawa discuss the fact that Tamura, Kusano and his allies are missing, and identify the government as a real threat to their existence.
Shinichi returns to school but Hirama shows up just as the former plans to walk home with Murano, asking for his help. Murano reacts angrily at the bloodshed caused by Parasites and Shinichi's frequent involvement in their affairs. Yamagishi asks Shinichi for advice on firepower effective to Parasites, and the latter suggests flamethrowers. The military operation is launched the next morning and the building in which Hirokawa has established a base of operations is stormed. Uragami and Shinichi are brought in to identify Parasites among a crowd of evacuees, but both are unsuccessful as they have to be closer and/or see the evacuees in person.
The episode ends with a female Parasite being detected by X-rays set up by the military.
