A Dark Night's Passing (暗夜行路, lit. An'ya Kōro) is the 7th episode of the Parasyte -the maxim- (寄生獣 セイの格率,, Kiseijū Sei no Kakuritsu), anime series.
Overview[]
Shinichi meets a man named Uda, who is in the same situation as him. Quickly sympathizing, and becoming friends with each other, they decide to stop his mother together. After the parasite is killed, Shinichi returns home, and is greeted by Murano.
Summary[]
The Parasite on the beach Migi had detected turns out to be Mamoru Uda, whose jaw contains a Parasite. Like Shinichi, he retains independent brain function. As it turns out, a Parasite attempted to possess him on a cliff in the past, burrowing into his neck. Uda fell into the sea and his Parasite, Jaw, was forced to reach full maturity while still in his jaw in order to save his host.
Shinichi and Uda form an alliance, agreeing to stop the hostile together. That night, Migi explains Shinichi's increase in physical attributes: 30% of his body mass split into fragments and circulated Shinichi's body in order to accelerate the healing of his heart wound. The next day, the parasite using Nobuko's body arrives in town and is detected by Jaw.
Shinichi gives chase, but Migi falls asleep, morphing into a blade to raise his host's chances of survival. The impersonator corners Uda and Jaw on a cliff and they fight briefly, before Uda is pierced through the chest and falls.
Shinichi confronts her, using his augmented senses to evade and attack. He is about to land the finishing blow, when the sight of his mother's burn mark makes him hesitate. She then gains the upper hand but Jaw takes her by surprise and kills her. Jaw had apparently changed the position of Uda's heart to protect him. Before the Shinichi leaves town with his father, Makiko expresses her desire to see him again.
The episode ends with Kana sensing Shinichi's presence, and Murano greeting the boy upon his return.
