Beyond Good and Evil (善悪の彼岸, lit. Zen'aku no Higan) is the 9th episode of the Parasyte -the maxim- (寄生獣 セイの格率,, Kiseijū Sei no Kakuritsu) anime series.
Overview[]
The recent events involving Shinichi draws him even further from his friend and crush Murano. Meanwhile, another of his friends gets close to danger after discovering Shimada's secret.
Summary[]
Kana runs into Shimada again and Mitsuo gets annoyed. Shimada easily overpowers Mitsuo and Yuko sees the former walking away from the fight. Later, Akiho makes her suspect Shimada of having a fake face.
Shinichi's father is frustrated at not being able to go public with the existence of Parasites, and breaks down, confessing the true circumstances of his wife's murder to Shinichi. Elsewhere, Hirokawa discusses mankind's destructive nature with Ryoko Tamura.
Yuko catches a glimpse of a Parasite's appearance from a drawing pad belonging to her brother Haruki (a police sketch artist). The next day she witnesses Shimada healing himself after sustaining a deforming injury to his head. Shinichi stops him from further revealing his true nature by chasing Mitsuo's gang away when they seek a fight with him.
More pronounced changes in Shinichi's personality surface, scaring Murano away. Migi assures him this is for the best, as they are merely a side effect of his increased mental resilience. Yuko tails Shimada after school and witnesses him changing his face. She suspects he is a Parasite, and sets a trap for him in school.
The episode ends with Shimada revealing his true form in an effort to remain undercover by killing Yuko.
